Common Conditions Requiring Surgical Intervention

Athletic Injuries

Injuries such as ankle sprains, stress fractures, and ruptured tendons commonly occur. If conservative treatments do not allow proper healing, surgery is an option.

Traumatic Injuries

Bone fractures, or breaks, often occur during a trip or fall, as well as other traumatic accidents. It is important these injuries are diagnosed correctly in order to create a proper plan of care.

Fracture Care

With 26 bones in your foot and ankle combined, trauma to any one of these bones can cause a considerable amount of pain and inflammation.

Foot Deformities

The most common foot deformities we see are bunion and hammertoe deformities. Dr. Bultsma has had extensive training in correcting these via surgical intervention.

Bone Spurs

A bone spur repair is surgery to remove a bone spur, a bony growth that forms on normal bone. Your doctor will make one or more small cuts near the bone spur and remove the piece of bone.

Flat Feet

Flat foot reconstruction repairs the ligaments, tendons, and bone structure in your feet. It reshapes the foot so that your arches are better supported and in their proper positions.

Wound Care & Limb Salvage

Dr. Bultsma routinely performs lower extremity wound care, both in our office, as well as in the operating room. Most commonly seen wounds are diabetic wounds of the lower extremities.

Soft Tissue Masses

Soft Tissue Masses of the feet and ankles include both benign and malignant masses as well as lesions. Fortunately, malignant soft tissue lesions are not common and the soft tissue masses forming on the foot are usually not dangerous tumors.
